Die Die Die the Fishy eye

30 May 07

A shot from the Die! Die! Die! shoot, love'in that  Fish-eye. This shoot was meant to be a nice outside shoot, but due the england being england, it was very close to not happening at all due to rain. In the end we found a bar and alleyway to shoot in. The allay in fact forms part of the Strongroom recording studios.

Printed and Die Die Die

30 May 07

I think my foot is about to fall off to hurts so much and I don't think spending everyday, all day long on my feet shooting helps it much. Last night manics shoot made it to the London Lite which was good and today I spent some more time with Die! Die! Die! doing a shoot in Shorditch in London.

manic this week

30 May 07

The Manic Street Preachers play the Forum tonight, supported by mini people The Enemy. The Enemy have tones of sing-a-long tracks and the manics...well there getting old. This didn't stop them jumping about just as they always did. Nicky wire, perfecting that scissor jump at any part of the song he was not singing. Earlier today I did a shoot with Bat for Lashes for Kruger Magazine (photo to follow), walked miles to Battersea, but it was a wicked setting using the power station and had a great day.

I see you baby, Shake'in that ass

25 May 07

Classic advert material from Groove Armada tonight. But two songs in, and just after I'm getting my own arse shaking, the house lights go up. The band walk off stage and as they go, tell everyone to leave due to a fire alarm. Everyone heads for the nearest exit, and waits outside....25minutes later we're all allowed back in and the show continues. Really cool visual effects swirl about on the 3 massive over head projector screens and the party runs onto the night.

London lite : the national

24 May 07

Thanks to Carsten for pointing this one out to me! Yesterdays London lite, with a live review of The National from Tuesdays gig. Last night at Editors a lens slipped out of my had like a bar of soap, and is now 2 smaller non-functioning lenses. Oh dear.

Editors

24 May 07

The Editors, back with there new album 'An end has a start' play the Roundhouse, and in the words of Bruce Forsyth "didnt they do well"!! I was a big fan of the first album, and the new stuff also sounds good so should please fans. They rocked out in this wicked venue tonight and the crowd loved it. The crowd, me included, didn't really love the support act Envey Corps. One girl shouted "get your shirt off" to the 15+stone front man...I'm glad he didn't take it seriousy.

Grand National

23 May 07

First gig back after The Great Escape, and its down to Astoria for The National, supported by Annuals, who lots of people are raving about, I don't see it myself. The National were Ok, not really my sort of thing an the lighting was poor, something unusual for the Astoria. The shots looked cool in Black&White, this one also has a sepia tint.

The Great Escape

21 May 07

WOW, what a weekend. I shot 20 bands live & 4 promo shoots in 3 days in sunny Brighton for this years Great Escape festival, the UK's answer to SXSW. There were late night, there was a lot of sleeping on hotel floors, and of course there was fish and chips by the sea..what more can you ask for? I had an amazing time, with the coolest people! Here are a very brief selection of shots from the weekend (pictured : Gallows/Foals/Willy Mason/Goose), as I shot over 10Gb of material. One night off, and back on the horse for this weeks gigs.

Battles

17 May 07

Tonight Battles play the Scarla. Goldern guest list ment that this gig was a hot tip for anyone into their serious music. Last time they were in UK they played at the Southbank. Purely instrumental, these guys are bring their style back to the masses leading bands like Explosions in the sky and Souvarias. tonights performance was electric. The photo pit was non-existent, and had about a foot to work in, but the shots came up nicely, could of all gone really badly wrong, but didn't. Off to Great Escape tomorrow morning, so some tasty photo treats will follow when I return on Sunday.

"cookies" album release - 1990's

15 May 07

After a lovely bit of chicken pie at home I drove in to central to The Borderline, tonight the 1990's from Scotland headline their own party to celebrate the release of their new album "cookies". The venue was pretty full and the band were very thankful for all the people who showed up to party with them. CSS, who are good friend of the band Dj'ed late into the morning.

Jing Jang Jong

11 May 07

Tonight was a soho dash, from St James Church in Piccadilly to The Borderline just off oxford. At St James Stephen Fretwell was playing in this very cool venue, and after my 3 songs, ran in the rain to the Borderline to catch 'Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong'. Keep an eye on these guys, there going to sign soon for big money as every Major Label had someone down there last night, and credit to them, they were very good.

Sunshine Underground

10 May 07

After a minor hic-up on the door with photo passes I was in to the Astoria, Can you believe that they are selling that building off(mean fiddler) to redevelopment of oxford street and a mega shopping center? It will be the biggest loss. I know that I personally grew up going to that place, and in fact still remains one of London best venues, not only for seeing bands but also from a photographers point of view. I can remember being so excited shooting there for the first time. Anyway, Sunshine underground, good band, and good support from Rumble strip and the Whip, Both bands to look out for in the future.

I received a copy of Kruger Magazine the other day, of which two shoots a did a few months back appeared. One for CSS, and the other for Willy Mason. Reportage : Lion not Dragon

07 May 07

Today I was working for the WHTimes. Shoot several events across Hertfordshire in the space of a few hours. This picture shows the Lion Dance preformed by the Phoenix Freestyle group in Essendon. I was corrected when I called it a dragon, apparently is has to have 6 people or more to make it a dragon. this was Lion and the costume was shipped in from Hong Kong at the price of £800, hand made, and very impressive.

Art : The Cinematic Orchestra

06 May 07

I saw these guys several years ago on their UK debut to the Barbican and I'm here again now when they return, they are the Cinematic Orchestra. A experimental jazz electronica group, widely acclaimed and tonight doing one of the 'Live recording' so you can buy it after CDs. Low atmospheric lighting made it hard to get good shots but ti was a very good gig.

Roundhouse mid day fun

05 May 07

Today is a free gig at the Roundhouse as part of the 'Artrocker' magazine's free sessions in the FREEDM studios. Screaming Tea Parties provided much entertainment in the form of lots of noise and the reason I came ' The Victorian English Gentleman's Club' were really good and well worth the trip down. Hopefully working with them again down at The Great Escape in a few week time.

The Artaris

05 May 07

After a night off it was time to head back in to London town for The Atrais at the Mean Fiddler (downstairs at Astoria for those who don't know it) Funny venue, and includes the 'dance floor of death' (it drops off suddenly at each side) Tonight the lighting engineer was asleep and decided not to have any light on the band from the front, only from the back, which left the photographers a bit stuck, scrapping at shots that arose when the band walked near the back of the stage. Not ideal, but you work with what your given and these were some of the results!

Unsigned Ben

Here is a shot of a shoot I did in Feb just after getting back from OZ. Its was for a guy called Ben Griffith who's been in all the Ford Focus adverts you might of seen. Def worth a look when he's playing live!

02 May 07

Today was a cool day, I spent a good few hours around St Albans watching the filming of new film Incendiary, due out 2008, directed by the girl who did Bridget Jones and stars Ewan McGregger and Michelle Williams (pictured). Really cool to see a film set in full working action.

Electric Soft

01 May 07

Tonight is a night that I'll try and forget quickly. One thing after another  happened that was not good, Just one of those days. Tonights gig was Electric Soft Parade @ Kings collage. Basically a gig in a student union, the stages lighting was a bit on the poor side, but managed to get some nice thoughtful shots of co front man an keyboardist. Not a massive fan of this band, good job I had my ear plugs, new earplugs in fact, which are very good!
